After a long time waiting for Thames Water to complete their Tideway SuperSewer works you may have observed Conway are now hard at work re-constructing the whole of Deptford Church Street between Deptford Bridge and Creek Road. The new design will be a single carriageway road with fully segregated cycle lanes and a much improved public realm with more space for pedestrians plus environmentally friendly rain gardens. The hazardous roundabout outside the Bird’s Nest pub will be replaced by a signalised junction.
These cycle lanes will feed directly into Cycleway 4, fully opened all the way to Tower Bridge earlier this year, to make a totally segregated main road cycle route from Deptford Bridge to Tower Bridge.

Full marks to Lewisham Council for taking up our ideas for this road and turning them into reality thus taming this outdated and hazardous dual-carriageway.
These are extensive works so will go on for a number of months, hopefully we’ll see completion in time for summer.
Our next campaign objective is to persuade Lewisham to extend these lanes along Brookmill Road for a direct route all the way to Lewisham.
