Liveable Neighbourhoods

Liveable Neighbourhoods are an initiative by the Mayor of London (not to be confused with the boroughs initiative Healthy Neighbourhoods). The initiative funds long-term schemes that encourage walking, cycling and the use of public transport – see here for details.

Deptford Parks Liveable Neighbourhood (DPLN)

In 2018 this was awarded feasibility funding by the London Mayor. See here for latest details. LC were actively involved in the development of this proposal (led by Sustrans and Deptford Folk).
The award followed extensive campaigning by Deptford Folk, LC and other local community groups on The Canal Approach Greenway – initial proposal here

See our response to the consultation on the final proposals here.

Work on DPLN was suspended in 2020 due to TfL’s funding issues as a result of the C19 Pandemic. During 2021/22 some elements of DPLN were delivered including the filtering of Scawen Road, Rolt Street and Prince Street, plus Woodpecker Way has been resurfaced. Other elements such as the key Canal Approach Cycleway, Grinstead Road and Sanford Street protected crossings are still outstanding.

Greenwich Town Centre Liveable Neighbourhood

Liveable Neighbourhood feasibility funding has also recently been awarded to Greenwich Council to improve and enhance Greenwich Town Centre. The Council have recently consulted on exciting proposals to remove the gyratory – see here. Greenwich Cyclists LCC Group will be assessing these proposals as they are developed by the council and we will also be keeping an eye on them as many Lewisham cyclists are regular visitors there.
