I am really sorry but I have reluctantly made the decision to cancel our ride to Heybridge.
Lewisham Cyclists rarely cancel a ride but our riders’ safety is paramount. So I was in the area this morning and rode most of the route. Parts were absolutely fine, but there were several significant stretches of ice which made riding very stressful and necessitated several occasions where I had to dismount and walk and two near misses on bits of black ice. During the ride, the beautiful sunny blue skies clouded over a few times and it began to sleet. This sleet was freezing on the road as it fell. That didn’t make for pleasant riding. The forecast is for even colder weather tomorrow and some precipitation tonight, so if anything, it may even be worse tomorrow. If anyone still fancies a ride, as temperatures in London are significantly warmer, I will be in Le Delice at 10am ready for a local London pootle, possibly a variant of one of our Parks rides, about 20 miles with at least one refreshment stop. Will post more details this evening.
Meanwhile a few photos, to show you how pretty the area is so you come when we reschedule and also some ice shots to show you why we have cancelled.
