Deals Gateway: The Latest Instalment

  • by

Some of you might remember this, over 2 years ago now, We made a couple of videos at this junction to prove to TfL just how dangerous their decision to make Deal’s Gateway share a green light with oncoming traffic from Greenwich High Rd was. Traffic turning right from Greenwich High Rd just didn’t seem to be aware that they needed to give way to traffic moving straight ahead across… Read More »Deals Gateway: The Latest Instalment

18th January Ride Cancelled

  • by

I am really sorry but I have reluctantly made the decision to cancel our ride to Heybridge. Lewisham Cyclists rarely cancel a ride but our riders’ safety is paramount. So I was in the area this morning and rode most of the route. Parts were absolutely fine, but there were several significant stretches of ice which made riding very stressful and necessitated several occasions where I had to dismount and… Read More »18th January Ride Cancelled

The Annual Pudding Buster 2015

  • by

We usually run this ride in the last week of the old year, but this year it slipped a bit and became our first countryside ride of the New Year.  Although, for some if us it was already our third ride of 2015 as we had done the New Year’s Eve ride which straddles the old and new, and, then, as we were still wide awake on New Year’s Day… Read More »The Annual Pudding Buster 2015

Deptford Bridge Junction Campaigning Update

  • by

Ironic or indicative, I wondered as I struggled to find a convenient and secure place to park my bike outside Palestra, on Blackfriars Rd, where I was about to attend a meeting discussing TfL’s plans for the junction at Deptford Bridge. There were three of us from Lewisham Cyclists and seven of the team charged with the development of the scheme. We have already sent them our initial response, which… Read More »Deptford Bridge Junction Campaigning Update

Hertfordshire Lost Lanes Ride November 16th

  • by

A beautiful, clear morning as I rode out to Blackfriars had clouded over by the time I reached the station. Over the next ten minutes or so, I was joined by three riders from Kingston Cyclists, then a Bromley rider, then two Lewisham rides regulars. The seven of us obtained our bargain tickets, £5.60 each. I was surprised to receive only one ticket for the groupsave deal…this seems a new… Read More »Hertfordshire Lost Lanes Ride November 16th

Deptford Bridge “Improvements”

  • by

These are the “improvements”.  You can find a clearer, larger map plus further details, here:  https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/a2-deptford-broadway-deptford-bridge-junction The inverted commas in the post heading should hint that all is not well with us since receiving these.  It will be apparent why they have been inserted when you read our response to TfL.  We urge everyone to respond personally to the consultation, say exactly what you think.  It’s important that as many… Read More »Deptford Bridge “Improvements”

Quietway 2: The Lewisham Branch

  • by

Well, the plans for Lewisham’s 3km of Quietway 2 are here, ready for all to view and comment on.  Here It may only be 3km, but it does link Lewisham to a fairly direct route to Waterloo Bridge. A route which will be, once the Quietways improvements are completed, a much safer, quieter and more pleasant ride than the main road alternatives in the area. We’re pleased. But not totally… Read More »Quietway 2: The Lewisham Branch

A possible World Record in Prospect

  • by

If you have been on some of our rides over the past year, you may have had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of Sidney and Mary. They are a lovely couple of riders, always smiling, with a great zest for life, energy and sense of fun. The kind of people a ride leader loves to have along, they get on with everyone, and stay cheerful, even if things don’t… Read More »A possible World Record in Prospect

The Quietways are Coming!

  • by

At last, it looks like some tangible progress is being made with the London Quietways scheme.  Those of you that attended our meeting last year at the Town Hall, heard Andrew Gilligan describe these routes as the ones that will encourage new and less experienced cyclists to choose cycling more often. One of the first Quietways approved will be Q2 and it will link Greenwich, Lewisham and Southwark to Waterloo,… Read More »The Quietways are Coming!
