Planned CPZ expansion in Lewisham

Lewisham Council are planning to accelerate their Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) deployments across the borough. We very much welcome these plans as uncontrolled parking is blighting many areas of the borough. Pavement parking, abandoned vehicles and blocked accesses are currently a major issue for pedestrians and people on bicycles alike. However we believe Lewisham’s CPZ implementations could be much smarter than they have been to date to deliver significant environmental,… Read More »Planned CPZ expansion in Lewisham

Catford and the South Circular

  • by

Sadly, yet another person has been seriously injured on the stretch of the South Circular Rd that runs through Catford Town Centre. Its only a few months since Lewisham Cyclists rode in remembrance of Lukasz Binkowski, killed last year on the Catford Bridge section and now another rider has suffered what the police have described as life threatening injuries in a collision with a lorry again, just yards away on… Read More »Catford and the South Circular

Deptford Church St protected cycle lane – construction post 2021

At the beginning of June we received a very positive response to our letter to the Lewisham Mayor regarding the construction of a permanent bi-directional cycle lane on Deptford Church Street (part of the proposed Lewisham Spine via the A21) after the completion of the Thames Tideway works in 2021. This proposal was strongly supported by a number of other local Community Groups. The recent response from the Lewisham Mayor… Read More »Deptford Church St protected cycle lane – construction post 2021

Lewisham Cyclists’ Covid response suggested schemes

As per our last post we have now collated ideas on a wide range of schemes to encourage and facilitate active travel modes in Lewisham during the Covid epidemic, plus providing more space for social distancing while cycling and walking. We have recently sent these ideas over to Lewisham Council to incorporate into their plans. These ideas fall into these main categories Immediate implementation of two planned Healthy Neighbourhood trials.… Read More »Lewisham Cyclists’ Covid response suggested schemes

Cycleway 4 Lower Road Consultation

  • by

Work has already begun on the western end of the new Cycleway 4 which will connect Tooley St and the south side of London Bridge to Greenwich through north Southwark and Deptford. The consultation on most of this was completed some time ago and we spent time encouraging and helping folk to respond back then. There was a “missing link” in Southwark, around Surrey Quays due to Southwark needing more… Read More »Cycleway 4 Lower Road Consultation

Winter riding

  • by

Had one of my best commutes of the year today. I’m lucky enough to have a MTB and used it to ride down through Ladywell Fields off the paths. The snow was the deepest we’ve had for nearly ten years and I made the most of it. In fact, I left an hour early and just rode up and down those little hills in Ladywell Fields as many times as… Read More »Winter riding

Brief Campaign Update

  • by

After the flurry of activity to get the best bits of Quietway 1 finished in our borough, (although Childers St and the Deptford High St crossing still isn’t done; we’re keeping our eye on those,) you may think things have gone a bit quiet on the Campaigning front. Not so. We still carry on working to keep safe space for cycling a key part of both the council’s and TfL’s… Read More »Brief Campaign Update

Quietway 1 User Survey

  • by

At the end of the summer, you may remember that we carried out a survey aimed at finding out what users of Quietway 1 felt about it. Qe also wanted to see who was using it, whether it had attracted new users.  We carried out the survey during the evening peak hours and, although we had a lot of respondents, felt that the category of cyclists mostly around at that… Read More »Quietway 1 User Survey

Lewisham Gateway: A New Junction Fit For the 21st Century?

  • by

“It is unbelievable that in 2015 junctions are being redesigned from scratch that don’t properly take account of the needs of cyclists and fail to provide a safe, segregated route. Cyclists shouldn’t be expected to dice with death every time they go through Lewisham Town Centre and the Lewisham Gateway junction needs an urgent rethink.” This is what Darren Johnson, Elected member of the GLA and chair of the GLA… Read More »Lewisham Gateway: A New Junction Fit For the 21st Century?

Deals Gateway: The Latest Instalment

  • by

Some of you might remember this, over 2 years ago now, We made a couple of videos at this junction to prove to TfL just how dangerous their decision to make Deal’s Gateway share a green light with oncoming traffic from Greenwich High Rd was. Traffic turning right from Greenwich High Rd just didn’t seem to be aware that they needed to give way to traffic moving straight ahead across… Read More »Deals Gateway: The Latest Instalment
